About Your Eyewear Choices

LENSES:

Your eyeglass lens material makes a significant difference in the overall quality, weight, size and thickness of your lenses. It may seem that lens options are endless and mind-boggling however, at the Carlson-Tillisch Eye Clinic, our doctors and opticians will discuss with you the lens that will best suit your prescription and occupational demands. Each lens is a different combination of material and treatments that affect your quality of vision, thus it is important for you to know more about the choices that are available to you.

LENS MATERIALS:

  • Plastic Lenses were introduced as an alternative to glass lenses and are one of the oldest lens technologies used today. The industry has noticed a decline in demand for plastic lenses because of the great advantages of more premium lens materials.

  • Polycarbonate Lenses - More than 10 times stronger, much thinner and flatter, and up to 50% lighter than regular plastic lenses. Polycarbonate lenses offer eyeglass wearers a unique combination of comfortable, lightweight, impact-resistant performance.  With added durability and UV protection, polycarbonate lenses are the safest lenses for children and for those with active lifestyles.

  • High Index Lenses - High index lens materials represent the very best in lens technology.  High index offers superior optics, UV protection, and the thinnest, flattest, most fashionable lenses possible.  High index lenses are 50% thinner than plastic or polycarbonate lenses and are ideal for all eyeglass wearers, particularly those with stronger prescriptions.

  • Anti-reflective Lenses - Anti-reflection treatments help you see more clearly and comfortably by cutting down on the eyestrain caused by glare from fluorescent lights, computer screens and car headlights when driving at night. AR treatments also aid in making your lenses more cosmetically appealing, allowing your eyes to be more visible to others.

  • Photochromic Lenses - These lenses darken as you go from indoors to outdoors automatically adjusting to reduce glare, improve contrast and help reduce eyestrain.  They also provide 100% protection from harmful ultraviolet light. They are ideal all-around lenses and are available for all types of prescriptions.

  • Polarized Sun Lenses - With polarized lenses you can see past the glare and into the depths. Polarization blocks light that is reflected by flat surfaces such as water, pavement, metal and snow. These are especially useful for driving, fishing, hunting, cycling and skiing.

SUNGLASSES:

Sunglasses are "a must" to protect your eyes from the harmful UVA rays(linked to the formation of cataracts and age related macular degeneration) and UVB rays(a true cause of corneal sunburn).  Please stop by one of our two locations and let our talented eyecare professionals assist you with selecting UV protective eyewear from our Oakley, Ray-Ban, Rudy Project, Kate Spade, Juicy, and Callaway lines.
